disturbing

Somehow, at lunch yesterday, our staff wandered into the topic of sex change operations. (I am gratefully naive and sheltered!)

Anyway Debbi Weeks sent this Breakpoint article to us all after lunch.

I thought the Johns Hopkins bit was interesting.

I am thinking through how to talk to my children about this mad world and where it's going. Not even sure where to begin sometimes. Any thoughts?

That IS disturbing. My thought is "Lord, come quickly!" But in lieu of that, I don't know how you begin or what age you begin. Since we are past that in terms of speaking with younger kids, I would be at a loss, too. What are they teaching in the schools? When the kids began asking questions, that's when we would engage in conversations. But these days you may have to be ahead of the game.

This is outrageous!! DNA doesn't lie even if Frankensteinian procedures do. Where are the parents and why are they allowing this? Adolescence is typically a confusing time of change and metamorphosis. What happens to a child psychologically when that process is hindered? Whatever happened to "Male and female He created them?" Genesis 1:26. Is it o.k. to be angry about this?

Is it any wonder these little kids are mixed up? Look at the picture in this article from the Pride Festival. During the festival there are little children everywhere. These little ones are exposed to all kinds of gross sin as the day goes on. I can't imagine what they must see behind closed doors.

There was a Dateline episode about a week or two ago on something similar to this. It was about children who were supposedly born one gender but didn't believe they were meant to be it. They thought they should be the opposite. There were children...like 6 year olds who were a boy but there mom and dad let them be a "girl" and vice versa. The plan was to be injected with hormones at adolescense and then eventually have sex changes. It was the saddest thing I have ever seen. It's was on ABC. It's Dateline: Understanding Transgender Children. I don't know if you can find it to watch it but it gives a real look into the depth of this. I just prayed for each of those kids as I wantched it...

So I just read the whole Breakpoint article and it's the exact same thing. The show explores real children who are doing this. Some of those children were probably being seen by this doctor

i worry more about the church's witness to the homosexual and transgendered communities, in all honesty. i plan to teach my children what the Lord says about these matters, while at the same time teaching them love and compassion towards other people--including those living alternative lifestyles. (and it may be sooner than i'd thought being that there are two same-sex couples that we see on a regular basis.)

i cannot imagine bearing the burden of feeling that i was born the "wrong gender." it is so tragic, all the way around. many of these people experience great pain and isolation.

each of us is looking for love. we may not understand others' choices or behaviors or sin, but at the end of the day we're called to love them and be Jesus to them.

ken thinks its just a sin like people who live together and are not married, which is a sin and the church seems ok with it or isnt as horrified about it, its all sin and I am smart enough to know, i am dumb and i will let god decied these things, be grateful for what we have and not what we dont how we treat people will ultimately show what we are inside and that is SAVED.
