wisdom vs. science

Here's the C.S. Lewis quote from last week's message entitled "Wisdom & the Heart," since Janice asked. . .

For the wise men of old the cardinal problem had been how to conform the soul to reality...

For applied science the problem is how to subdue reality to the wishes of men...
--C.S. Lewis, The Abolition of Man

Which are we more interested in? Which drives our culture? This week we'll look at Wisdom & Your Friends. Can't wait to worship with you.

Thanks, Pastor Tim. You always pick such good quotes! Maybe you could just put a PDF download of them/the bulletin outline on the website. I download the msgs in iTunes but at least I'd know I could get it there and not have to "bug" you when I can't write it down fast enough (haha).

Looking forward to Sunday!!

I liked your quote selection for sure, but the entire book, Abolition of Man, is so noteworthy in this generation! Lewis really denounces educational trends for not emphasizing the teaching of thoughtful criticism. People have not learned how to think! We are fed ideas as truth and just accept what we hear without pondering the logic of the ideas.

I am incredibly thankful that you do not dumb down the Word, even in your pursuit of clarification for us.

Thank you for holding high God's Word as it is and not filling our heads with over simplified illustrations that strip away the power of the Word as it stands. We can continue to live with the tension between our current culture biases and the Truth knowing that the pursuit of wisdom will be fulfilled if we are diligent to subject ourselves to its shaping and scrutiny.
