Steve Leonard, Adult Ministries Pastor Candidate

After a long and very slow search, we are pleased to present a candidate for our Adult Ministries Pastor Position at Grace Church, SLO. . . . Steve Leonard. Steve and I served together for a short time at the Evangelical Free Church of Laguna Hills a few years back. Since that time, we have kept in touch and developed a stimulating friendship. Steve and his family spent a weekend here with our Elders and staff in March. After thorough conversation with Steve and an extensive check of his references, the Elders believe that Steve will make an excellent addition to our staff.

Steve will be visting a variety of Growth Groups this week and also teaching in the College Group this Sunday, April 17th. At least a couple of other Adult Bible Fellowships will be joining the College Group to hear Steve open God's Word. You are also welcome. We hope many will have an opportunity to meet Steve, his wife Lisa and their two sons this week while they are here.

If you would like a copy of our position profile/job description and Steve's resume, please contact my assistant, Debbie Johnston at debbiej@graceslo.org. Your feedback is welcome and invited as we together seek the Lord in these matters.

Pastor Tim

Just out of curiosity, are you looking for feedback to be posted here on your blog, or did you want it to be e-mailed to you?

Steve Leonard was my High School Pastor 6 years ago.

I had a great time getting to know Steve and his family. I had the opportunity to go out to lunch with them on Sunday after church with some of the other College Group leaders. It was a great time of getting to know him, his background, and his vision. It seems like he's a great candidate, and that he'd do a great job here at Grace.

I was also affected by the sermon he gave to The Source yesterday morning as well. It was certainly very convicting and very applicable as well. I thought he also did a great job of handling the morning situation with grace under pressure. I probably wouldn't be exaggerating if I said there were over 100 (maybe over 150) people in the gym yesterday to hear him speak. I think his expectation was to have a lot fewer people (maybe closer to 50-60), and he did an excellent job.

I think it is also noteworthy that he and you (Pastor Tim) already seem to be on the same page in a number of aspects, not the least of which is the teaching of the Word and the supremacy of the Gospel.

I like Steve, what does everyone else think?
