Yikes!
I mentioned Oprah and her new age spirituality a couple weeks back. Allen Peek sent me this last week . . .
I fear for this lady. She is heaping up judgment for herself.
What's your reaction and your thoughts?

I happened to see Oprah announce this book, The New Earth. It immediately frightened me. I knew it would be hugely popular because it sounded like it fed directly to the fleshly desires of self-empowerment, self-importance, and choosing your own path that suits you. It doesn't surprise me at all that Oprah has essentially started her own religion by her influence and her promotion of this "new age" book. It is frightening--very frightening--that there is such a large following. This "religion" is completely a ploy from satan to purposefully confuse people away from the Truth that is Jesus Christ.
I appreciate all Oprah has done to help people and her typically compassionate nature toward those in need, but I've always been concerned about her spiritual side.
So when she heard that God was jealous and it didn't sit right with her. As a result, she decided that she needed to find something that would work with the way that she felt instead of aligning her beliefs with what the Bible says. That journey has brought her here. That is sad especially because she has many following her.
Lord, keep us from following our hearts and feelings instead of aligning them with Your Word.
Tim, this is chilling. Up until now I've just considered her and her show "fluff" that gets watched in the afternoon while eating chocolate. Not anymore. I'm not sure if I'm angry with her or if I feel sorry for her? Nevertheless, she is leading millions of (mostly) women down the path to Hell with her, and she seems proud of herself for doing it. Just chilling.
Dangit, I love Oprah. I've always just wished she was Christian because she does have some great things and causes...never knew she was basically endorsing "Oprahism". I'll have to reconsider watching her show. It's so sad...so many people do things and buy things just because Oprah recommends it...it's too bad the Bible isn't her new Book Club pick...
i guess i'm not really surprised. for as long as i can remember, oprah's been openly into new age philosophies, been recommendng new age books, etc. celebrities have a lot of clout, and therefore the potential to do a lot of good (which she does) and a lot of bad (which she's doing).
All the philanthropy that Oprah does is filthy rags in God’s eyes (Isa. 64:6). In the end, this poor, lost lady and her help, only deceives people. I personally do not appreciate her good deeds because I know God isn’t pleased with her or her good works (Heb. 11:6). I love Oprah as well but I hate ALL that she is doing. Wouldn’t it be so cool if she would bend the knee and worship the One, True Living God that she too might be completely satisfied in Him? Lets pray that God would grant her repentance.
Pastor Tim, isn’t what we see in Oprah’s “ministry” the spirit of the antichrist that John spoke of?
Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. 1 Jn 2:18-19
Oprah’s false doctrine distorts the truth and opposes Christ, does it not? Her aim is clear. It’s not about helping people, it’s about deceiving people and having them worship the created (Oprah) instead of the Creator.
For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. Mt 24:24
Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Ac 20:28-30
Pastor Tim, I appreciate your willingness to sound the warning to the flock. I thank God for your leadership. Keep it up! I bet this kind of thing isn’t easy.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. Eph 5:11
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
“Therefore come out from them
and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you.”
“I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”
2 Cor. 6:14-18
Did I say too much?

It's days like the GRACE SERVICE DAY event that will keep Christians from falling into a life of 'having a form of godliness, but denying it's power'.
THE DANGERS FACING CHRISTIANS as with an Oprah is a strong reminder for us to remember the priesthood of the believer and the sacrifices made by Martin Luther to make God accessible through scriptures.
Culture is relevant - and as Christians we must ask why is Oprah so popular? She influences culture in Chicago like you wouldn't believe and we really should pray for her. Praying and reaching out the culture 'moves and shakers' will change a city, a state, a nation.

I missed the sermon, but caught up with a cd. The course in miracles is one of many "new age" things my Mom was into when I was a teen. I have always wondered what they were teaching. I did notice the "Christian" language. The two quotes you mentioned say it all. If it denies the cross and the need for repentance it is from the enemy.
It reminds me of a book my Mom sent my older kids when they were teens. "Conversations With God for Teens". It was hard for me to tell where it was coming from until I looked up specific topics and compared them to the Bible. After I read the section on relationships (sex) and Jesus (is he the only way to God). It became really clear. I felt like Satan had sent me (and if I had given it to them my children) a letter. Sent shivers down my spine.
This stuff is very evil. I just hate how it will affect my unsaved relatives who I know idolize Oprah. I will pray for her and them.
you really need to stop pointing the finger and see how you guys are stop judging others just because they dont worship god like you want them too..... she helps people thats all that matters shes giving back... you just assume she wants people to worship her... but do you really know that, no, i think not.... atleast shes real, you guys just hate the fact that shes rich and helping others.. all ive ever known of this grace church is juding people, sorry we're not all perfect like all the little families at grace church... all you guys worship is your stories in a book that you never experienced or no is truth, its just by word of mouth, legends and myths... which you cant deny because it is true you have no proof.
its seems that nothings enough for you guys, a woman does great things for people, things you guys dont do or would think of doing, but yet you condemn her to hell... thats pathetic get over it really.
Dear Anonymous,
While some may see the Bible as myths (yes, even I have grappled with the Bible and its doctrines) Could I recommend a couple of books to you? I have found them to be very helpful. One of them is called "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel" (you may have even heard of this as its pretty well known) and another called "A Skeptics Search for God" by Ralph Muncaster. These books don't merely say "I believe in God because I have been taught this way or that, my parents told me so, my pastor says so, etc). What is interesting is that these authors were both athiests before coming to their decisions.
I too have heard of the nice things that Oprah has done and I think MORE Christians SHOULD put into practice their own kindness as opposed to just attending Sunday service (even my own finger is pointing back at itself).
I realize that from the outside some Christians may seem like they put on a "perfect" persona and some may really believe they are better than others. I hope that you have not been the victim of Christians who have treated you in an un-Chritlike manner. Please don't lump all of them together. The ground at the foot of the cross is level and no one is better or more deserving of God's grace and mercy than another. Again, I highly suggest the books that I listed above, especially the one called "A Skeptics Search for God" by Ralph Muncaster (no I'm not getting paid for recommending these books :) ). It's a little scientific at first for some but I think this is a good thing though. It's nice when someone gives evidence rather than just saying "because". In the end, however, we must all take a step of faith when committing our life to Christ, and I hope that you will be able to weigh all the evidence and make that step of faith yourself.
John
